If all the donations properly go through without chargebacks or refunds, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be your final Evo 2017 game.

The fighting game community is one of the best in all of gaming, even if they can become a bit too exuberant at times. Often, that energy goes towards positivity, as evidenced by Evo 2017 offering up a 9th game charity campaign that raised money for Make-A-Wish International.

The way it works is simple; people can choose to donate on behalf of one of nine games up for consideration for the final spot of Evo 2017. Those games are; Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Pokken Tournament, Windjammers, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Nidhogg, Killer Instinct, Arms, Skullgirls, and Mortal Kombat XL.

With the campaign ending at 3 PM ET earlier today, it appears as though Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 will be your 9th and final game of Evo 2017.

Of course, plenty of people could chargeback their credit cards for any of these games, especially when it comes down to prime fighting game entertainment, but as it stands when reporting this, UMvC3 generated $71,690 in donations. Pokken Tournament came in second with $66,906 from 744 donors; a gigantic feat, considering first place had double the total donor. Killer Instinct finished third with $6,116 in donations.

The divide in first and second came down to the wire, as it took some big, last-minute donations to push Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 over the edge and into Evo 2017. Big names in the community, including Lythero with $200, Justin Wong with $2,000, and lapchi with $2,000, helped allow the game to live for one more year as the scene (possibly) transitions to Marvel vs Capcom Infinite next year.

As per the original Evo 2017 announcement, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 will hold their finals on Sunday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center as part of their campaign. If this is it for this game’s storied FGC tour, then it will surely end with a bang.
