Jeron Teng put out a debut to remember as he powered AMA Online Education past newcomer Batangas 101-95 in the curtain raiser of the PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup Thursday afternoon at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Teng scored 42 points, making 12 of his 27 shots and 18 of his 23 attempts from the line to go along with seven boards, six assists, a steal and a block in an amazing all-around performance.

His 42-point effort only came in second when it comes to scoring performances after James Martinez set the scoring record last year with 58 points.

The former La Salle star scored 19 points in the fourth period, including seven straight which started a 15-2 run as the Titans opened an 88-72 lead.

Teng then scored 11 points in the final five minutes, draining seven crucial free throws in the stretch,  to hold off a late rally from Batangas led by Joseph Sedurifa.

"Sa kanya nagsisimula yung fire ng team at importante yung leadership niya sa loob," said head coach Mark Herrera.

Teng got plenty of help from ex-pro Juami Tiongson who fired in 15 points as Ryan Arambulo and Mark Olayon added 10 and 13 respectively.

Longtime D-League journeyman Jay-R Taganas continued his dominant ways in the paint as he grabbed 18 rebounds to go along with six points, three assists and three steals.

Team Batangas were kept afloat all thanks to the hot shooting of Sedurifa who drained three pointer after three pointer in their late rally only to fall short in the end no thanks to Teng's steady hands late.

Sedurifa finished with 25 points, while Don Carlo Fortu added 18 in the loss.
